Thailand Visa for Foreigners
The Thailand Tourist Visa is one of the most popular options for travelers from around the world who wish to experience Thailand’s rich culture, renowned cuisine, and iconic beaches. While the process is generally straightforward, the visa is not granted automatically, and applicants should be aware of specific conditions and requirements before applying. Thailand offers two types of Tourist Visas, as well as a Visa Exemption Scheme for eligible nationalities.
Thailand Tourist Visa Options
1. Single-Entry Thailand Tourist Visa
This option is suitable for travelers planning a short stay in Thailand without leaving the country during their visit.

- Can be extended once for 30 additional days at a Thai Immigration Office
- Maximum stay: 90 days
- Estimated fee: USD 30–50
- The visa becomes invalid immediately upon departure from Thailand
2. Multiple-Entry Thailand Tourist Visa
This visa is ideal for travelers who plan to enter Thailand multiple times over an extended period.
- Valid for 6 months from the date of issuance
- Allows unlimited entries during the validity period
- Each entry permits a stay of up to 60 days
- Each stay can be extended for 30 additional days

Visa Exemption Scheme
Travelers from eligible countries may enter Thailand without applying for a visa in advance under the Visa Exemption Scheme.

- Can be extended for 30 additional days at a Thai Immigration Office
- Entry is granted via a stamp upon arrival, not a visa
What Is the Thailand Tourist Visa?
The Thailand Tourist Visa is a visa sticker or electronic visa issued by a Thai Embassy or Consulate that allows entry into Thailand for tourism, leisure, or medical purposes. It is important not to confuse this visa with the Visa Exemption stamp, which is granted on arrival for eligible nationalities.
⚠️ Employment of any kind is strictly prohibited while staying in Thailand on a Tourist Visa.
Thailand Tourist Visa Requirements
Visa fees and required documents may vary depending on nationality and the issuing embassy. Requirements can change without prior notice, so applicants should always confirm details with their local Thai Embassy or Consulate. Many countries now offer the Thai E-Visa, which allows applicants to complete the process online and significantly reduces processing time.
Commonly Required Documents
- Completed visa application form
- Passport with at least 6 months validity
- Recent passport-size photograph
- Fully paid travel tickets
- Proof of funds:
- 10,000 THB per person, or
- 20,000 THB per family
- Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or private residence)
All documents must be in Thai or English. Documents in other languages must be translated by a certified translator and legalized by the appropriate authority. Thai consular officers may request additional documents, so applicants are advised to apply well in advance of travel.
